It would have been No-Show, but they were there.
Instead of playing, Mike Cheese sat on stage, smoked a blunt, drank whiskey, and ate a burrito.
People are PISSED, hahahahahaha.
I can't wait until this "set" ends up on YouTube.

hahaha dude i was at the show sitting on the stage when that went down...it was really funny....it was two dudes, one eating the burrito while the the other smoked a joint and drank whiskey while they played a hip hop song through the bass amp...it didnt seem like anyone was pissed, everyone was laughing.

and i was really let down by pulling teeths set at this show...i was so stoked to see them, and they did play good but their singer was kind of anoying...i havent seen a singer that preachy in a long time, it was kind of lame...thats what made the who gehenna thing even funnier.

one time in like 95 or 96 jesuit was on tour with ...ahem...piebald. we played coos cafe in orange county, and i had talked to cheese about him coming out to the show. he just says "be ready motherfucker."
we show up at the show and i turn in our "guest list" which said :mike cheese, justin holbo, other dudes from gehenna.
the promoter looks at it and goes "uh. umm, this is going to be a problem."
"whys that?"
"well, mike cheese kind of isnt allowed here anymore."
"whys that?"
"um, well the last time he was here he kinda beat a kid until he was bloody. so we dont allow him in here anymore."
"hmm. well thats a problem for you then. because mike is in his car about twenty minutes from here, and he's coming. and if you dont let him in we arent going to play."
i thought the kid was going to cry. he made me agree to have a talk with mike before the show to make sure he'll "behave".
so mike shows up i say "hey mike, the kid at the door says you arent allowed in."
"haha really?? watch this."
he walks up to the kid at the door.
"im going in." the kid just nods with that "please dont punch me" look and mike walks in laughing.
this was one of the best shows jesuit ever played. mikes presence only made it better. it was fucking INSANE. i believe a window got smashed, chairs were thrown, me and mike were going punch for punch in the face during our set (bad idea on my part). then he jumped on my back and i ran into the crowd and the vegan distro in the back was history. i think a kid got knocked out, and i also snapped the headstock of my les paul. good times. he was yelling at the crowd telling people to fucking wake up because "these motherfuckers know their p's and q's." i love mike.
some of you may be interested to know that i met mike while he was roadying on the unbroken/mean season tour and they played at the kings head and he was asking me "what is this kickboxing dance bullshit?? that shit is GAY."

I've got a couple Cheese stories committed to memory.
One time Cheese worked at a record store somewhere in Orange County, I think. Some kid picked up an 18 Visions CD and was going to buy it when he walked up to the kid and asked, "Do you seriously like this shit?" The kid was like, "Well, yeah. I think 18 Visions is the best band currently in Hardcore." Cheese then proceed to knock the CD out of the kid's hand, and slap the kid across the face.
I don't know if there's any truth behind this or not, but it's an entertaining story so I'll post it anyway:
At one point in their lives, the members of Gehenna were edge. They broke, and apparently some hardline crew in Belgium fount out and were really pissed about it. They decide the next time Gehenna plays there they're gonna beat the shit out of them. This gets back to the Gehenna dudes somehow, but they play anyway. About halfway through their set, 15 dudes run through the door. They rush the stage, but Cheese was waiting for them, basically. He picked up the mic stand and swung it like a battle axe and took out three dudes in one hit. The other members are using whatever they could get their hands on and beating the everloving shit out of this crew. Apparently the crew didn't realize that, edge or not, they were still gonna have to fight Gehenna.

i think there are little bits of truth in both of those stories but i think the stories got bastardized over years of being retold. i know gehenna had alot of issues with some of the hardline dudes from out west and there are a ton of fight stories from that whole thing, and there was also beef between them and 18v.
years ago a dude from 18v interviewed me for his zine and he asked me what hardcore bands i like and all i said was "gehenna." he was not stoked.
